What we value

I believe Mr Thomas Paine’s quote illustrate the fact that we take the things we have for granted. This quote can apply for everything we owned. In my case I feel that I usually take advantage of my close friend’s trust. In doing so I tend to get angry and frustrated when she doesn’t quite trust me with her secrets, but on further reflection upon myself I realised the fact that she has little faith in my integrity is due to the fact I had been taking advantage of her trust in me as a person. I have let her down so many times because I foolishly believed that no matter how mean or annoying I can become; she would forgive me. Now I understand that what we have, we tend to take advantage of it and overuse it. I hoped that maybe my friend can find it in her heart to forgive me for taking advantage of her trust.

 

Humans in recent years, have been taking advantage of the resources we have here on planet Earth. We cut down forests, polluted rivers and pump poisonous gas into the atmosphere without caring about what we happen to us in the future to our children. We as human are lucky enough, to have a planet that provides us with that many resources to use, but they are mostly finite. Similar to the fact I had been taking advantage of my close friend’s trust.  We have been taking advantage of Nature’s trust and wasting what we have.
