Tiger Mask W, Reliving my old love for Wrestling

Two men fighting. A setup that drives countless fictional stories, and one which Tiger Mask W delivers in spades. I used to watch WWE in the past with my little brother, so I really enjoy seeing this again. The ROCK, JOHN CENA, KANE, AND THE UNDERTAKER.

We know that wrestling in the real world is not real. It is a scripted story about Hill, the bad guys and the good guys, the Faces. People are attracted to these stories rather than the skill of the players. This anime combines both the real skills required as an athlete in wrestling with a good old shonen story about good v.s. evil, redemption, and growth in the form of two man beating each other.

This show main selling point is action, it is only natural to see a lot of action. A lot of basic moves you see in wrestling are presented in this anime such as the lariat, the drop kick or the abdominal stretch.  Tiger the Dark uses it as one of his signature moves but refers to it as the Darkness Driver a call out of the Undertaker’s signature move Tombstone Piledriver,

Tiger Mask W looks very reminiscent of old 80s sports shounen sports anime with the new style and designs of modern animations that give it this nostalgic feel while making it feel fluid and amazing to watch.

Not only does this series have Tiger Mask competing for New Japan Pro Wrestling, but features its present contenders such as Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi, NJPW president Yuji Nagata, and IWGP champion Kazuchika Okada. While the anime style portrays their looks in a more comedic tone by exaggerating their expressions and personalities, it is still fun to see art imitate life. This is the coolest example of life imitating art.

The opening song is a newer version of the classic Tiger Mask theme, which, even though it’s pretty cheesy as you would expect from a 60s cartoon, still works fine today. I checked it on youtube. It is so full coool. The reason for this show is revenge, pure and simple.

The show shows how two people take revenge on The Tiger’s Lair. The Tiger Lair which destroyed the wrestling dojo of the two main characters. One took over the training facilities of Naoto Date ( the original Tiger Mask) at the foot of Mount Fuji, as well as the mask he left behind. The other dared to enter the Tiger’s Lair and won a fierce competition, receiving a jet-black tiger mask. One tiger walks the path of light, while the other walks the path of shadows, but they both want to destroy Tiger Lair.
