Mahoutsukai no Yome, Skull head and Beauty

The story about how a chance meeting can change things for you. Finding love between two broken people can help them grow.  This is a story of love in an unlikely place, between a broken girl and an abandoned creature of the old magic. A chance for us the viewers to look at our lives, and appreciate everything we have. This is a tear-jerking festival of feels. The world of Mahoutsukai no Yome might have magical spells, beast straight mythology, and beings that have been around for thousands of years, but the journey of Elias and Chise to find love and heal themselves is really relatable. It is not as easy as love will solve everything.

Most emotion quote “I don’t care if he thinks of me as a toy, and throws me out when he’s bored. It’s because of him… even though it was only one time, said to me that I am his family.” Chise Hatori. This is probably my favorite quote of the series. When you lost everything in this world you, a chance encounter and a mere few words can save your life. This is not your typical romance anime, The first interactions between Chise and Elias Ainsworth cannot be described as emotional; more like an owner and his new pet.  However, his matter-of-fact tone reaches the depressed Chise quite well. Elias takes her into his home in England, clothes,  bathe her in a tub and feeds her and gives her a room.  He told her she is his bride in the first 2 episodes. This story goes more into the lines of classical tales like Beauty and the Beast. Elias is a half-fairy and half-human creature that can understand many things but can’t empathize. We learn in episode 6 that he bought Chise in order to understand humans,  heal her to learn about the non fae part of himself.  As Elias is the only one that has treated Chise like family (in sharp contrast with what we would consider as a real family), she chooses to stay by his side. They both are, to a certain point, very practical and down to Earth with their relationship. This is a rare thing in today’s anime world, where exalted feelings are what mostly moves the plot away.

“Mahoutsukai no Yome follows 16-year-old Chise Hattori as she is just about to be sold in an auction due to her supreme magical elements. Known as a Sleigh Beggy, Chise cannot use magic at the is beginning, but she can also be a conduit for beings in the magical world. This has made her life a living hell, well, at first everything was fine. However, when the fae harassment increase, Chisa’s father left with her brother, never to appear again. Her mother, Chika raises her till she was seven, but the stress up trying to kill Chise, but ended up committing suicide instead to save her daughter. My friend Irina has written a post on this

Chise’s life changes during the action when she is bought by a man named Elias Ainsworth who just so happens to be neither human nor beast. Elias buys Chise to be an apprentice to be taught magical spells and abilities but later asks her to teach him how to be more human in nature. From here on out, Mahoutsukai no Yome’s story begins by following the lives of both characters very closely. Mahoutsukai no Yome is one of those anime series that doesn’t come around often enough and even though it just recently ended, we miss it already.  From Chise’s dark beginnings of trying to find herself to the ending where she finally gains strength thanks to her own powers and her friends, I and Sensei love this show as it reminds us of time in England.
