Okay, just felt like it would be great to give you a short glimpse on this anime, since I’m that kind of person who needs to be reassured that an anime is worth watching, and that’s usually by checking out trailers or reviews (mostly to see if there are any positive reviews, because I mostly watch non-popular anime). Either way, is it worth watching? Yeah, definitely. Jump in as soon as you can, so you keep up with the flow and don’t need to do an all-nighter as I do all the time when watching anime.
“You guys really are idiots.” Words of gold.
The very famous Magical Punch that kills everything in one hit is here. This is the only reason; you will need. OK, tantei, be serious and review the show in all its entirety. The main attraction of this show is Glenn-sensei. He i s the exact opposite of what you’d expect from a teacher, let alone the main character. Glenn might look cool, but he’s lazy and indifferent to magic. Sure, he has his badass moments and backstory, but most of the time Glenn-sensei is like that one character that doesn’t quite seem to belong in the show.
Ok, sensei. Well let start with a summary of the show. Glen is a new transfer teacher to a school. He was once a skilled assassin for the magic kingdom, but got a mid-life crisis and retired. His mentor does not want him to be a shut-in, so she made him teacher. Now, begins his quest to take over the school, trained his class to be magic aces, and get the yellow and silver-hair females students to have crushes on him, The End.
This anime like many other light-novel anime adaptations; it is too short. The anime too short to complete the main storyline? Sensei, pointed it out that there is a LOT more to tell and a LOT more that haven’t been revealed yet in the short span of 12 episodes. So what to do, my audience? Rush through the 12 episodes, then read the Light Novel (LN)
Hold up sensei, let talk about the show’s magic system: Fantasy light novel animes have another problem, maybe because of their short lengths; it is rare to see a show like Akashic Records, which puts a spin on that by adding interesting elements like chanting manipulation, macro for spells, element mix-matching. The show also take a different approach the typical magical battles or tournaments. When the school does have matches or events it is bout students facing each other, but about individual skills and how creative they can be with magic to win.
Dear audience, an aspect you that people might dislike about this show is the fanservice. From the girls’ uniform to a particular scene from Episode 1 that involved two girls in a locker room as yuribait, You can tell fanservice is a big part of the show.
You will enjoy this series for its main characters: we have a half-assed substitute teacher that does nothing but asks you to self-study but is secretly very high-skilled in terms of magic, We also got the classic tsundere to damsels in distress or the seemingly emotionless character. This show is guilty pleasure and just plain fun. It is also available in Netflix Vietnam at the moment, so you can binge it.
