The One Thing We Wish We Would Have Known When We First Started our Blogs – A Community Post

Thank you Irina for this post. Well done.

100 Word Anime

Once in a while, I get messages from bloggers asking for advice with their blogs. Although I feel very flattered and honoured that anyone would come to me for such a thing, I also feel a little bad because I don’t have that much to offer. I can only draw from my own experience which is still fairly limited.

So I asked for help! And because anime bloggers are the best, I immediately got a whole bunch of responses. I reached out on Twitter and asked anyone who wanted to participate to DM me. Then I asked my volunteers the following question:

What is/are the one (or two) thing(s) you wish someone had told you when you first started your blog?

I figure I can steal these next time someone asks for advice! In the meantime, I’m sharing them all with you, because it’s never too late to learn. I’ve…

Renai Boukun, Doing Too Much with your harem.

When a strange girl named Guri comes knocking at Seiji Aino’s door, he quickly finds himself thrust into a world of romantic troubles. Claiming that she will die if he doesn’t kiss someone within 24 hours, Guri’s pleas of desperation are misunderstood as pleas for love, leading Seiji to kiss the cute stranger that came barging into his house. In actuality, it turns out that this cosplaying cupid is the wielder of a Kiss Note, in which any pairing of names she writes will kiss and become a couple. Guri explains that she misspelt and accidentally wrote Seiji’s name while indulging in her yaoi fantasies, but because she had yet to pair him with anyone, their kiss was meaningless. Even worse, Guri reveals that if Seiji is not coupled with anyone soon, not only will she die, but Seiji will remain a virgin for eternity! Continue reading

Ero-manga Sensei, Come At Me Haters

I don’t feel guilty for liking this show even if  there are incest undertones with this show, but Elf- sensei is the best girl to me.  The characters are so cute, and the story resonates with a lot of otakus out there who has a dream in an anime related field. The story is quite similar to My Sister can’t be This Cute. But I hope it doesn’t follow the same trash ending of through.

So these are the main points of the story:

  •  Somewhat trope-filling and eccentric characters
  • Cutesy moe-style heroines
  •  Frequent suggestive shots of various middle school girls
  •  An abundance of rom-com cliches and sexual gags.

Fuuka, read the manga

Fuuka-2-1

I want you guys to go and read the manga if you don’t like the anime. If you love the manga, watch the anime for the songs. I made some edits to this post as there things I was not happy with.

The first thing I noted about going into this anime is how everyone apart from the main character, is a total jackass- With the few exceptions. Moreover, the main girl of the series, Fuuka, is a jackass too. Trying to create an anime centered on a romance for a girl, who was introduced to me as someone who hated everyone but herself is pointless. Why would they even think that I would care about the romance of the main characters when I despise one of them? I love them so much in the manga only to hate them here. Very annoying. Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru, Art club romcom.

Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru (or Konobi for short) is a perfect example of an anime which technically doesn’t do anything particularly different from your average rom-com, but it accomplishes what modest goals it has with flying colours. We have a standard middle school club setting and barely any plot development to speak of; the show is simply about the everyday events the characters experience in their lives, and their interactions with each other. No more, no less. But with characters as interesting and likeable as these and some good laughs to go with them, that’s really all you need to still deliver a very funny and entertaining anime.
