Takashi Natsume has a peculiar and terrifying secret involving youkai: for as long as he can remember, he has been constantly chased by these spirits.
Prior to the beginning of the series, he was originally reserved and soft-spoken because of his troubled past and he used to greatly dislike having the ability to see youkai because of the trouble it’s given him. Thanks to the kindness of the Fujiwaras, Kitamoto Atsushi, Nishimura Satoru, and his friendship with Madara, he slowly opens up to both humans and youkai.
I see a lot of parallels between Natsume and myself. I was born with CP, so it has brought me a lot of challenges both physically and emotionally. I used to resent the world and the people around, but as I got older and started watching anime. I realise that there is no point in complaining. Some people are born with the talents, some are not and some live in less than ideal circumstances.
I want to be “a person who is trying to be kind.” Natsume might have little tolerance for Youkai’s antics and was treated badly by his relatives but is kind towards both humans and youkai that he can forgive them for their actions.
I have forgiven a lot of things and will continue on this path of “trying to be kind” I might never find an answer, but I want to move forward.
Wow, ok, I resolve not to complain at all today! Thank you for the inspiration!

Part of the beauty of Natsume is that despite being a supernatural themed show, the lessons it has embedded in it are ones we can all take on board. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Natsume is such a wonderful show that has so much meaning behind it. Being kind is hard, but it’s worth it in the end.
